When auto-cutout is enough — and when to swap the source

Segmentation leans on contrast between subject and background. Check this before you batch twenty files.

Usually smooth

  • Single portrait / ID shot on a plain or soft backdrop
  • Product stills with a clean table and full outline
  • You need white, blue, red, or transparent exports from one pass

Change the photo or plan to hand-edit

  • Crowded groups with overlapping limbs
  • Glass, smoke, or large sheer fabrics
  • Subject color almost matches the background

Prep the source

One prep step beats swapping models later

The model cannot invent edges you never captured. These habits help more than hopping models.

  • Leave a little margin

    Don’t clip the subject to the frame edge — full outlines segment cleaner.

  • Even light

    Avoid half-blown, half-black frames; silhouette shots often yield only a rough shape.

  • Simplify the backdrop

    Busy clutter steals the subject; crop junk out first when you can.

  • Don’t pre-crush the file

    Heavy JPG mush softens edges; prefer originals or light compression.

Transparent, solid ID colors, or your own plate

One detection can re-export with new backgrounds — no need to re-run the model.

Troubleshooting

When edges or file size fight you

Hair or collar keeps a fringe of the old background?

Turn on fringe reduction, or re-run with IS-Net; still messy — erase the spill in mask edit.

A few batch items fail or get skipped?

Check the 20-image / 20MB caps and JPG·PNG·WebP support. Over-limit files are ignored — split the batch.

Transparent PNG turns gray on a platform?

Some backends don’t accept alpha and fill their own color. Export white instead, or convert to the JPG they want.

Can I use the result commercially?

The output is yours to use; make sure you have rights to the original. The tool doesn’t claim your image copyright.

Do I need the network?

Loading the page and models needs network once; processing itself is local. We don’t ship a fully offline bundle yet.
