They asked which street you live on. Strip every EXIF field this time?

A kitchen original, a used-item listing, or a group-chat “send original” can still carry GPS. The job is not picking a safer-looking app — it is whether this file should leave with the sidecar intact, and whether the camera model survives if you clear the rest.

You dropped a kitchen original in a chat, listed a sofa from the living room, or sent last weekend’s walk as “original quality.” Then they asked which street you live on. They did not recognize the building. The file still held GPS. Phones write coordinates into EXIF by default. The next send is one decision: strip every field at once, or keep a sidecar that can name the street.

If the file can name the street, strip all EXIF in one pass. Camera model leaves with the GPS. There is no “GPS only” switch.

Three scenes — does this original leave with GPS?

Same sidecar, different send. Match the scene first:

A home original

Balcony, child’s room, kitchen table. GPS in the file can resolve the building. Strip before it leaves — even to people who already “kind of know” the neighborhood.

A used-item listing

Sofa, bike, phone shot in the apartment. Buyers need the item, not the coordinates. Strip the sidecar. A door number still in the pixels is a different job.

A group-chat original

“Send original” to family, classmates, or a neighborhood group. Many apps keep EXIF on original quality. If the thread is not a locked vault, strip it.

ImageAwe clears every EXIF field in one pass: GPS, make, model, lens, time, exposure. You cannot keep the camera model and drop only coordinates. A photography group needs the model? Keep a private original; write the model in the caption of the cleaned copy.

One pass on this file, then send the cleaned copy

Open EXIF Clean and treat the sidecar as the job:

  1. Drop JPG, PNG, or WebP — one file or a set. Keep each image at or under 20MB. Each photo is parsed and cleaned on its own: many files in, many independent results out — not one merged image. Still holding iPhone .heic? Convert first with the HEIC to JPG walkthrough, then come back.
  2. Read the panel before you clear. Confirm GPS and the camera model. Empty panel? Skip strip. Need the model for a photography post? Keep this original and share a different copy.
  3. Strip all EXIF, download independent results. Filenames get a -no-exif suffix. The local original is not overwritten. Preview and export stay in the browser.

ImageAwe reads and strips in the browser on this device. Home, listing, and group-chat originals stay local. There is no upload step.

GPS is gone. The door number is still in the picture

Clearing EXIF does not paint over a house number, a plate, or a chat string. Those sit in the pixels:

Wrap-up

They asked the street because the file still held GPS. Match the scene, then strip all EXIF in one pass — camera model included. Batch is many independent results. Each file at or under 20MB. HEIC first. Door numbers in the pixels need mosaic. Stay local.

Extra

After you strip

After I strip EXIF, can anyone still see the camera model?

Not from the file metadata. ImageAwe clears every EXIF category in one pass — GPS, make, model, lens, capture time, aperture, ISO. There is no “GPS only” switch. If people need the model, keep a private original and write it in the caption of the cleaned copy.

Can I delete GPS and keep the rest of the sidecar?

No. One strip clears the whole metadata segment. Camera model leaves with the coordinates. Open the file first so you know what you are giving up, then download a cleaned copy — the local original is not overwritten.

If I drop a whole album, do I get one merged file?

No. Batch means many photos in, many independent results out. Each file is parsed and cleaned on its own. Keep each original at or under 20MB. HEIC is not parsed here — convert it first, then come back.

Does stripping upload my photos?

No. Preview and export run in the browser on this device. Home, listing, and group-chat originals stay local. Clearing EXIF also does not hide a house number in the pixels — mosaic that separately if it is still in the frame.
